To enter Greece from the UK, all travellers above the age of 12 will need to have completed a passenger locator form.

They will have to display proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of arriving in Greece; or proof of a negative COVID-19 rapid antigen test from an authorised laboratory taken within 48 hours of arriving in Greece; or proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least 14 days before travel. The certificate for this – the ‘NHS COVID pass’ – can be obtained on the NHS app.

In addition, the Greek government will accept proof of recovery from COVID-19 to allow entry. Evidence of a positive PCR test, taken between 30 to 180 days before travel, can be found via the NHS COVID Pass.

Travellers arriving by plane may also be required to take a lateral flow test on arrival – a positive result on which may necessitate a quarantine period in a hotel for at least 10 days, paid for by the Greek state.

If travelling between the Greek islands by boat, you’ll also need to fill in a ‘sea travel COVID-19 declaration form’.

Even as the rules around international travel become more clear, the minutiae of what COVID-19 means for holidays can still make your head spin. But we’ve got some information that might help you make sense of it all:

This means that unvaccinated arrivals from Italy will have to quarantine for 10 days and take a pre-flight test. Then, they’ll need to take a PCR test on day 2 and day 8 of their quarantine, with the option to ‘Test and Release’ on day 5 to escape isolation early.

The cost of these tests can vary, but ‘day 2 and 8’ kits generally cost around £70. A list of test kit providers can be found here. If you live in the UK or are travelling from the UK, easyJet can offer discounted access to Covid PCR testing through accredited service providers.

From 19 July returning travellers who have been fully vaccinated (that is, jabbed twice) skip the quarantine rules, as would happen with a ‘green’ country.

What can I do in Greece on my holiday? Are museums, shops and restaurants open?

Restaurants, bars, clubs and tavernas are open, but to dine or drink indoors you’ll have to present proof of vaccination or recovery from COVID-19. Outdoors, tables are limited to six people.

You don’t need to be vaccinated to visit museums, theatres or archaeological sites, but you will need to present a negative COVID-19 rapid test taken within 48 hours of your visit if you are not vaccinated (these cost €10 a pop).

To take long-distance public transport or attend open-air sports events, you will need to present proof of vaccination or recovery from COVID-19.
