With its rich history and its Gothic architecture, Venice is rightly celebrated as one of the world’s favourite tourist destinations. But as anyone who’s ever visited will tell you, it’s not the easiest place to get around.
Landing at Venice Marco Polo Airport, tourists find themselves presented with the first such challenge: how to get to their hotel. Many opt for the water-bus, but these can be slow. Private water taxis, while faster and more spacious, are extremely expensive.
There is a third way – and it’s the one discerning travellers go for. They take the bus. Local operator ATVO runs a variety of routes from its stop outside the airport Arrivals’ Hall, including an Express service that goes straight to Venice Piazzale Roma, taking only 20 minutes. Or there’s the Marco Polo – Mestre transfer, which makes two stops along the Corso del Popolo, close to several hotels, before ending at the Mestre railway hub, from which a direct walkway will take you to the new “Ca’ Marcello” hotel district.
