There’s no question: Porto looks good. Witness the beauty in the historic centre, full of colourful tiles and ornate architecture; or across its cultural institutions, like the bright-pink exterior of the Serralves museum, an incredible Art Deco building that’s also home to some of the world’s best modern art.
You may fancy heading south of the river to hop between the tasting cellars of Porto’s eponymous wine lodges, but there’s plenty of chance to drink their produce in the city’s buzzy bars and restaurants, from local backstreet petiscarias (think Portuguese tapas bars) to upscale restaurants.
And if you’re all about the views, you won’t be disappointed: snap a picture of multi-coloured houses from the tranquil hilltop park Jardim do Morro or hop on a train out of the city to frolic in turquoise waves at the beach. Make no mistake: Porto’s a city it’s impossible not to love.
