The sun doesn’t always shine on the British capital, but when the clouds do break and the sun comes out, its glorious monuments glitter like the priceless stones set into the Crown Jewels. And on those beautiful days, there’s no better place to watch the sun go down, not least because Londoners themselves are so excited by the arrival of sunshine that they will inevitably be found enjoying BBQs and drinking an Aperol Spritz in the city’s parks, lounging on rooftops and lapping up the final few rays as if it’s the last sunset on Earth. Join the joy and you will see London in a whole new light.

D&D - Haugen

Do you feel like having some apres ski-style fun in a place bursting with good vibes, but find yourself a bit far from the slopes? If so, you can get your fill of Alpine-inspired delights in London at this unique bar and restaurant. As the orange sunlight starts to fade, head to the al fresco terrace for a perfectly mixed Aperol Spritz to match the stunning sky. With DJs providing the soundtrack to the summer, it’s the ideal place to meet friends and share an aperitivo as the sun starts to set on this buzzing city – the perfect way to get the party started.

Refinery Bankside

Refinery Bankside has a stunning terrace, branded by Aperol Spritz, that is filled to the brim with fragrant bougainvillaea flowers. This is a perfect spot to enjoy aperitivo with gorgeous small plates, such as tempura samphire served with a side of wakame aioli or a Napoli flatbread – all with an Aperol Spritz in hand. And for a sunset with a difference, the Tate Modern is just a short stroll away. This temple to contemporary art is a must-see for any visitor to the UK’s capital. Once you’ve had your fill of Surrealism, Impressionism, Formalism and Fauvism, head to the terrace bar to watch the setting sun sparkle off the famous dome of St Paul’s Cathedral, with uninterrupted views through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The View from the Shard

Even if you’re scared of heights, it would be remiss of you not to take a trip to the top of London’s tallest building as dusk falls. With unparalleled views for up to 40 miles in every direction, on a clear day you can watch the light fade over landmarks including Hyde Park, Big Ben and the O2. Feel the wind on your face from the impressive open-top viewing platform, or for those who prefer a slightly less al fresco experience, there’s an indoor option too. As the late fashion designer Vivienne Westwood said “There’s nowhere else like London. Nothing at all, anywhere” and gazing over the city at twilight from Renzo Piano’s jagged masterpiece, it’d be hard to disagree with her.

Primrose Hill

Those in the know head to this tried-and-tested spot for some of London’s best sunset views. Grab a blanket, some mates and an aperitivo picnic of small delicious bites and everything you need to make an Aperol Spritz. It is easy when you know how: just mix up three parts of Prosecco, two of Aperol, a splash of soda, some ice and a slice of orange! With good friends (or even with someone more… romantic) you can enjoy the jaw-droppingly beautiful city vistas from the highest hill in north London. Look closely and you’ll be able to spot the London Eye, BT Tower and even Big Ben glimmering in the orange light as the sun disappears on the horizon. And, once the light fades, you’re perfectly situated for an evening out in Camden, one of the city’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.

Sky Garden

The soaring, iconic venue fondly known as the Walkie Talkie (or Sky Garden, to use its official name) is set in the heart of The City, meaning you’ll be treated to near-unbeatable panoramic views across London’s urban sprawl when you watch the sunset from over 30 floors high. Take your pick from the venue’s three stylish restaurants and two vibey bars, and accompany those marvellous vistas with an Aperol Spritz. Truly a sunset that stays with you.

D&D Madison

Ironically, the great thing about London is its ability to channel the vibe of other places. Madison is a great example, taking inspiration from the lively and eclectic New York dining scene to create a slice of modern Manhattan in their penthouse hangout. Spoiler: they do some great steaks. From their rooftop terrace, you can match the spectacular hue of the sky with a perfectly orange Aperol Spritz. To make it particularly special, they have a roster of DJs and live musicians to serenade you as the sun goes down.
