It’s official: summer is over. But don’t be upset, as autumn is here and it brings a ton of good things with it, not least of which is the beginning of a new academic term. Alongside all that learning you’ll be doing, this is also a chance to start making memories with pals old and new, both at your place of education and out in the wider world.

One great way of doing this is to book yourself a weekend away, so as not to disturb your term time. But how do you find the right autumn break without breaking the bank?

Simply by reading on, because UniHomes, the UK’s largest student accommodation platform (with bills included for all accommodation), have conveniently done the hard work for you and found five awesome European cities that are perfect for a long weekend jaunt this autumn. Take a look at their selection below for some inspiration. And when you’re back and settling into term time, get in contact with UniHomes to help sort your student accommodation without any hassle.

Berlin, Germany

Known for being a safe, inclusive and welcoming city to all visitors, the German capital is loved by students the world over thanks to its famous nightlife scene, featuring world-renowned clubs that attract the finest underground DJs. That’s your evening/early morning sorted, but what about daytimes? Try the city’s array of museums and galleries – surprisingly enough, Museum Island is a good place to start. As a bonus, if you’re visiting on the first Sunday of the month, many of Berlin’s museums waive their entry free, saving you some precious Euros.

Reykjavik, Iceland

Autumn is a great time to seek out the northern lights, a spectacular light show kindly put on by Mother Nature herself. Although you’re never guaranteed a sighting, Iceland is one of the premium countries in which to catch a glimpse of this phenomenon. Once you’re done with the night skies, turn your attention to nightlife, because Reykjavik, has it in bucketloads, despite being a compact capital. Legendary Kaffibarinn is always a safe bet for good tunes and good beer, as is local fave Bravó. And Skúli Craft bar is great for – you guessed it – craft beer. Elsewhere, look out for colourful street art peppered around the city and make sure you do a day trip or two to explore some ridiculously scenic parts of Iceland; the hallowed Golden Circle route is a fine place to start.
