Northern Ireland’s charming capital is crammed with gregarious locals, great pubs, and a very cool food scene – the recipe for a brilliant weekend away.
A stroll around the compact city centre is one of the best ways to take it all in. Start the day by sampling local cheeses, jams and breads at St George’s Market before taking in the story of the world’s most famous boat, and Belfast’s shipbuilding history, at the Titanic Museum, which has been cleverly designed to fascinate visitors of all ages.
Much of the fun in Belfast is – you guessed it – in its watering holes. From the cobbled streets and flower baskets of the bar-crammed Cathedral Quarter to historic music venues like the Belfast Music Hall, good craic is never far away. And if you’re after something a little more outdoorsy, some of Northern Ireland’s best sites and sights are a short drive. See Game of Thrones’ unmistakable Dark Hedges IRL (not withoyt the show’s CGI touch-up they retain their power), hop between the basalt columns of the Giants Causeway or take a tour of the Bushmills distillery before returning for a meal at one of the city’s hottest new restaurants. Who’d have thought Belfast would be such a ball, eh?
