Rock Island Bar, Corralejo

Easily one of the best-loved bars on Fuerteventura: this easygoing, heart-on-sleeve jam joint is reliably busy most nights of the week (well, in season, anyway). A loyal crowd of rockers turns up for the decent-priced drinks, friendly vibe and unplugged, all-acoustic live music sessions that never take themselves too seriously. Husband-wife owners Gary and Mandy set this place up in 1990 and are two of the friendliest faces in town.

Waikiki Beach Club, Corralejo

There’s a ton of drinking options in Fuerteventura but a solid start to any out-out adventure is this dependably buzzy bar-restaurant on the beach of Corralejo. The food is decent – think everything from hyper-fresh seafood to stacked club sandwiches – and the vibe picks up after sundown, when the bar gets clubby with a mixed crowd of good-looking locals and in-the-know visitors.

For a small, perfectly placed people-watching perch in Corralejo’s Old Town, this tasteful cocktail bar is pretty hard to beat. Delicious and fancy-looking craft mixes show way more care and flair than the Fuerteventura average (the Golden Geisha – with vodka, ginger and orange – is seriously yum), the staff are super friendly and the well-priced nibbles are definitely no afterthought. Open until 2am, daily.

Kiwi, Corralejo

Kinda cool, kinda cheesy, this is one of the longest running bar-clubs in Fuerteventura which, despite its age (est 1986), still pulls a cool, uncomplicated crowd for its boho-surf vibes, delectable fruit cocktails, live music sessions and one-off theme parties. Don’t come for glitzy-glam; like much of Corralejo’s nightlife, it’s a pretence-free, come-as-you-are affair every night until 4am (closed Sundays).

Mojito Beach Bar, Corralejo

For the ultimate lunchtime refresher or slow-it-down sundowner, head to this itty-bitty, nothing-fancy but totally loveable beach bar for some of the best cocktails around. There‘s a bunch of different mojitos on offer, plus dangerously drinkable classic alternatives like the cooling piña colada or the ace americano (kinda like a fizzy negroni). It’s pretty hard to fault – just come early for the best seaside seats.

The coolest reggae bar in town (fine: the only reggae bar in town) is deservedly popular with a mixed crowd of devotees for its no-stress, straight-from-Kingston chill vibes, fresh juices, reliable café snacks and, come evening, a likeably low-BPM, head-bopping playlist of, yup, reggae toons. Smiley owner Enza makes a mean mojito, or there’s rare craft beer bottles for hopheads. The shop does natty reggaefied crafts, too. Good times guaranteed.

Sunset Lounge, Corralejo

It definitely looks like one of the classier beach clubs in Corralejo, but even so the service is friendly and the crowd is chill and surfy (it’s part of Fuerteventura Surf School) and the refreshing, way-above-average cocktails are decently priced (free snacks are a nice bonus, too). Come for a barefoot-bikini sundowner and either head to town for dinner or stick around for the evening when live musicians (and then a DJ) holds court until midnight, daily.

An anything-goes, boho-cool surf bar right on the bay with outdoor tables with views of the beach, friendly staff and delicious, €3 cocktails (12-5pm, daily) – honestly, what’s not to like? Add craft beers, some pretty people and a sexy, soul-funk playlist to the mix and you’ve got one of the coolest spots in Corralejo. The food menu is pretty good, too (yes to those burgers). Banana Beach Club, Corralejo

This smart, hipstery surfer hang-out right on Grandes Playas Beach just outside downtown Corralejo has a chic, coveted sun-deck that’s restaurant by day and vibey cocktail boite by night. A regular roster of DJ parties mean Friday and Saturday nights have a clubbier vibe and there’s a popular Sunday afternoon barbecue from 3pm that’s good value at €10 a head. Open until 1am Wednesday to Saturday.

Tierra, Puerto del Rosario

Pub Earth – as it’s also known – has down-home, pretence-free, heart-on-sleeve charm to spare and is easily one of the best live music venues in Puerto del Rosario. The playlist could be anything from classic rock to blues to jazz, funk, soul – you get the idea, it’s a mixed bag but always friendly and always fun. The beer list is ace too, stacked with bottles from local microbreweries to satisfy curious drinkers. A short walk from the town’s main square, the outdoor alley seating is a pleasing, people-watching perch to mingle with a mostly local crowd every night of the week (except Sunday).

In the far south of the island, this lively pirate-themed bar-club in Morro del Jable has one of the busiest and best-loved dancefloors in town. Expect party-ready Latino beats from a roster of in-house and visiting DJs until late on weekends with a friendly bar team that can crack out crafty cocktails even when it’s slammed. The location means the crowd feels more evenly keeled than most clubs in Corralejo. Either way, it’s good vibes: either stay all night or finish up after a bar crawl.
