When choosing the perfect stay for a city break, there are some very specific criteria we like to apply. Location, of course, is crucial. The more time you have to spend in the back of an Uber, or wandering haplessly on the metro network, the less there is for all the fun stuff. Secondly, you need to be able to hit the ground running each morning, so a good slumber coupled with an energising breakfast are an absolute must. And thirdly, the hotel needs to be able to induce eye-watering levels of envy in our friends when we post it on the ‘gram.

Which leads us nicely to the In[n]Athens. With coolly minimalist interiors that could have come straight from the pages of a glossy design magazine, not to mention a delightfully photogenic interior courtyard, this boutique hotel appears to have been designed for the sole purpose of giving anyone not staying there an intense pang of FOMO when they spot it on their feed.

In[n]Athens' indoor courtyard offers a slice of serenity in the heart of the city

It would be entirely justified, too. In[n]Athens is right in the heart of the action in the Greek capital, with designer boutiques, historical sites and some of the city’s best bars and restaurants all within close walking distance. And because all 37 bedrooms include soundproofing, blackout windows and luxury linen as standard, there’s no chance of a bad night’s sleep, either.

So that just leaves the most important meal of the day. Since the hotel opened in 2015, breakfast here has become something of a guest highlight, thanks in no small part to a crowd-pleasing menu that goes well beyond the usual hotel fare (we recommend the potato souffle with poached egg, truffle oil and goats’ cheese). And guess what? The grub’s extremely Insta-friendly too…
