Tucked down an alleyway leading to the city’s Victorian Market, Inverness’ first whisky bar has a drinks list that’s split into three categories: Modest, Memorable and Magnificent. Each one contains a wide range of whiskies from Scotland and further afield, while, for a change of pace, you can also order cocktails.

Before you dip into the headspinning whisky list at this riverside pub, line your stomach with some of its top-tier grub – the tender venison with blueberry jus should do you for a night on the bottle. It’s easy to see why it’s won Best Gastro Pub in the north of Scotland three years running.
Castle Tavern
Built in the mid 1700s, this jolly hostelry not only makes haggis cigars with filo pastry, it also has a fine selection of whiskies and, as the name suggests, an excellent view of the local castle.
The Whisky and Piano Bar, Inverness
The Whisky and Piano Bar
This stylish place, within the swish Glenmoriston Town House Hotel, claims to have the largest whisky collection in the city. While we can’t verify that, we’re happy to test the hooch. An excellent piano player and mixologists further add to the charm.
Hootananny
Aside from its whisky selection, this den of revels is one of the best traditional music venues to be found anywhere in Scotland. Hootananny is open till late every night of the week, affording time for things to really kick off.
