Deciding where to go for your next holiday can be tricky. Do you play it safe and revisit a tried-and-tested spot you know and love, or do you branch out to somewhere new and exciting? To make it even more difficult, there are a lot of places out there waiting to be visited – like, a lot of places.

Thankfully, the team at easyJet Holidays have been scouring Europe and North Africa for the best holiday destinations, and have picked out seven bucket list-worthy places to make a beeline for in 2024. They’ve even made a rather brilliant video about it, offering up a perfectly neat summary of each destination and supplying a few choice highlights.

We’ve provided a taster of each place to get you in the travelling mood, but make sure to watch the easyJet Holidays video below for the full low-down on these unmissable destinations. Key sights and attractions, travel tips and hotel recommendations are all covered in the video, lining up everything you need for the perfect trip.

MADEIRA, PORTUGAL

Nicknames including ‘the island of eternal spring’ and ‘the Hawaii of Europe’ give a little insight into just how appealing this Atlantic Island is. Territorially part of Portugal but geographically closer to Morocco, landscapes here can be ruggedly beautiful, making for first-class hiking, including the epic Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo trail. The sub-tropical climate also creates the ideal conditions for flora to thrive, splendidly demonstrated in various verdant gardens, including Madeira Botanical Gardens and high-altitude Palheiro Gardens.

Speaking of high altitude, don’t miss the opportunity to zoom down the hill from Monte to Livramento in a wicker basket/toboggan hybrid – a popular tradition on the island.

Iceland

Iceland is one of those places that always delivers something new and fantastic, even if you’ve visited before on multiple occasions. A big draw for many visitors is, of course, the Northern Lights, and while you’re never guaranteed a sighting, Iceland is certainly one of the top places to see this incredible natural light show illuminating the skies.

Even if you don’t manage to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights, there’s an abundance of natural beauty waiting to be explored. Don’t miss the Golden Circle, a well-trodden but breath-taking route covering some of Iceland’s most impressive sights, including a geyser, Gullfoss waterfall and Thingvellir National Park. Afterwards, head back to Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, and cosy up in one of the hotels recommended by the easyJet Holidays team in their video.

Paris, France

If you’ve never been to this famous and reliably romantic city, you probably still feel like you know it a bit. And while you will indeed find plenty of the things that the world knows and loves about Paris (bikes, baguettes and boulangeries are all in abundance), you’ll also find lots of unexpected and wonderful sights you weren’t expecting, truly making Paris a city for all.

Crucially, don’t pass up on the headline sights you’ve seen on TV and in countless films: we’re talking the Eiffel Tower (and Trocadéro for premium views of the tower), the Montmartre neighbourhood for independent shops and great restaurants, and the River Seine for waterside lounging and cafe-hopping.

Check the video above for insider tips on other top viewpoints around the city.

Hurghada, Egypt

Sail away in style when in Hurghada / Image: easyJet Holidays

If you fancy warming up in any season, this resort town in the east of Egypt is a great bet thanks to year-round warm weather. But it’s not just sun that makes Hurghada such an appealing destination (though it certainly helps). The beaches here are dreamy, boasting white sands that invite barefoot wandering and sparkling waters that provide a scenic setting to cool down in.

If beaches are your thing, don’t just stay put, as the gorgeous desert island of Mahmya Giftun is blessed with more sandy stunners and is only a boat ride away. Snorkelling is very much on the cards both here and in Hurghada, as are plenty of other watersports and aquatic pursuits, including windsurfing, diving, water skiing and paddleboarding, to name a few.

Find out more and grab tips on the best resorts – from all-inclusive luxury stays to family friendly choices – in the video above.

Marrakech, Morocco

Tea take properly in Marrakech / Image: easyJet Holidays

Exploring this vibrant city is a multisensory journey that everyone should experience at least once. Its ancient, dusky red city walls, the luscious and colourful gardens, and the buzzing medina combine to create an unforgettable and intoxicating holiday destination. Getting lost by wandering the snaking streets is half the fun, as you’ll no doubt uncover numerous bustling shops and stalls, and tucked-away cafes and teahouses.

Make sure to get your bearings enough to navigate to Jemma el-Fna, a sprawling public square packed with market stalls and street entertainers.

Survey the hubbub from one of the area’s many rooftop bars (also great for sunsets) or take things down a notch by enjoying a relaxing dip in an outdoor pool, some of which you’ll find attached to various stylish Marrakech hotels – watch the easyJet Holidays video for choice hotel picks.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

A view worth climbing for in Dubrovnik / Image: easyJet Holidays

If Croatia’s capital city looks familiar as you stroll around its picturesque streets and historic old town, it’s probably because it was featured in hit series Game of Thrones, which should also tell you something about just how attractive and atmospheric Dubrovnik really is.

But as beautiful as the heart of the city is, factor-in time to make the two-hour hike up to Mount Srd, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views, which look even more mind-blowing if you happen to be there for sunset. Fear not if you don’t fancy a two-hour hike, as there’s a cable car that can whisk you smoothly up to the top, leaving you to relax and admire the views as you ascend.

Dubrovnik is also a heavyweight when it comes to restaurants and bars, and you won’t have difficulty finding plenty of great food and drink during your stay. Keep an eye out for rakia (a fruit brandy) on the drinks menus if you want to sip a local favourite. For something extra special, enjoy your drink of choice from one of the city’s incredible cave bars built into the rocks and overlooking the sea. You can even stay in a hotel with its very own cave bar – take a look at the recommendations in the video above to find out more.

Luckily, the city is surprisingly walkable for a bustling capital, and you’ll be able to dot around between most venues on foot relatively easily, while also getting in your daily steps.

It’s no secret that eating your way around Rome will be another huge highlight of your trip. Pasta, gelato and pizza are all present and correct here, and there’s certainly no shortage of vibey eateries in which to settle in for the night.
